Research concerns artists in different creative fields who wish to add a more speculative dimension to their work in order to position it in the theoretical field and view it from a more scientific perspective.
Instituted within the framework of higher education reforms undertaken some ten years ago in order to harmonise programmes across Europe, the idea of artistic research was the subject of thorough study and reflection in artistic and academic circles, undertaken with a view to establishing its specificities and, consequently, to setting up research teams in art schools and, more recently, instituting doctoral programmes.
